Seller's Guide

Learn how to create effective listings, attract buyers, and close sales successfully on Cattle Hub.

Creating Listings That Sell

Take Great Photos

Quality photos are the most important factor in attracting buyers. Good photos can increase inquiries by up to 300%.

Do This

  • • Shoot in natural daylight
  • • Get side profile, front, and rear shots
  • • Show cattle standing naturally
  • • Include multiple angles
  • • Show any identifying features

Avoid This

  • • Dark or blurry photos
  • • Photos from too far away
  • • Only showing one angle
  • • Muddy or dirty animals
  • • Stock photos (not your cattle)

Write Detailed Descriptions

Be thorough and honest. Buyers appreciate detailed information and will trust you more.

Include in Your Description:

  • • Exact breed and registration status
  • • Age and birth date
  • • Weight (or estimated weight)
  • • Vaccination history
  • • Health testing results
  • • Feeding program
  • • Temperament
  • • Breeding history (if applicable)
  • • Why you're selling
  • • Any guarantees offered

Set Competitive Prices

Research current market prices for similar cattle. Competitive pricing attracts more inquiries.

Pricing Tips:

  • Check local auction reports for current market values
  • Consider whether price is per head or by the pound
  • Factor in delivery costs or state clearly if buyer pays shipping
  • Be open to negotiation on larger orders

Respond Quickly to Inquiries

Fast responses lead to more sales. Buyers often contact multiple sellers - be the first to reply.

Communication Best Practices:

  • Respond within 24 hours (faster is better)
  • Answer all questions thoroughly and honestly
  • Offer to send additional photos or videos if requested
  • Be professional and courteous even if the sale doesn't happen

Required Documentation

Having proper documentation ready speeds up sales and builds buyer confidence.

For All Sales:

  • Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI)
  • Brand inspection (where required)
  • Bill of sale

For Registered Cattle:

  • Registration papers
  • Transfer forms
  • EPD data (for breeding stock)

For Dairy Cattle:

  • Production records
  • Breeding records
  • Johne's disease test results

For Breeding Bulls:

  • Breeding soundness exam (BSE)
  • Trichomoniasis test
  • Genomic test results (if available)
